This 19th century mahogany commode features both the French Empire and German Beidermeier styles, in particular the substantial, architectural form and the use of columns flanking the drawers. It features three large drawers (brass escutcheons with key) below a smaller, hidden top drawer, flame mahogany veneer drawer fronts with a distinctive book-matched grain pattern. The chest is topped with a variegated grey/green marble slab. The columns have simple, unadorned capitals and bases, typical of the more minimalist Biedermeier aesthetic.
