A refined small mercury-gilded bronze table clock, featuring a porticoed architecture clearly inspired by the Retour d'Égypte movement. The piece stands out for its quality casting and rich decorative detail.
Artistic
Structure: Two lateral uprights in the shape of Egyptian caryatids support the circular case.
The figures rest on quadrangular bases decorated with human feet, a typical detail of the most refined neoclassical style.
Cyma: The top is crowned by a majestic eagle with outstretched wings, a symbol of power and nobility.
Decorations: The uprights are embellished with pine cones, fruit festoons, and acanthus leaves. The elliptical base features a bas-relief frieze of swans drinking from a fountain, enclosed within floral scrolls.
Pendulum: The lenticular pendulum is finely openworked and decorated with swan heads and palmettes.
Technical Specifications and Dial
Mechanics: High-quality Parisian movement stamped "AD. MOUGIN - Deux Médailles." Adolphe Mougin was a renowned French watchmaker based in Montbéliard and later in Paris, awarded two gold medals at the World's Fairs for the excellence of his mechanisms.
Dial: White enamel with Roman numerals for the hours and a minute track. The center is embellished with a guilloché gilded bronze disc with a sunburst pattern.
Clockwork: Equipped with chimes on the hours and halftime.
