This listing is for a very fine example of a George II grandfather clock.
This clock was made of the highest quality sometime during the mid 18th century.
The casing is made from mahogany wood. The front paneling features burled mahogany features as well as intricately carved latticework. The hood features intricate fretwork, accented by gilt bronze detailing.
The movement was made by James Douglass of Chertsey, England (1733-1805).
The movement is an 8 day time/(bell) strike. The dial bears Douglass's name on the top. The dial has a silvered chapter ring, as well as a smaller ring for the seconds, and a scrolling calendar feature for the date.
The clock has been well cared for and well kept. The movement was last serviced in 2022. It ran and chimed when recently tested.
This clock is 98 inches in height, 22 inches in width, and 11.2 inches in depth. We understand that not everyone has a ceiling high enough to accommodate this height. If that is the case, the ornamented scroll top above the hood can be removed, making the clock 96 inches in height.
Please note that any mechanical clock that is moved or shipped might require adjustments upon arrival. Thus time accuracy/running cannot be guaranteed. Chairish sells clocks solely to be intended for display. The mechanical elements are not guaranteed to be in working order by Chairish

The clock has been well cared for and well kept. The movement was last serviced in 2022. It ran and chimed when recently tested. Some minor signs of normal wear and age present. A couple of very small nicks on some of the edges of the case. These very small blemishes are very old and have blended with the rest of the casing over the years. less
