This Really is an Absolutely Beautiful Antique Sewing Box. Circa Mid to Late 19th Century - Approx 1870s. Classic Victorian Style. Origin Most Likely European - Possibly French ?. It is Completely Hand Made with Exceptionally Nice Attention to Detail. It has a Fancy Grained Genuine Rosewood Veneer Exterior. The Top is Elaborately Inlaid with a Assortment of Genuine Abalone Sea Shell Flowers with German Silver Wire Trailing Vines. NOTE Also that the Flowers Have Hand Executed Scrimshaw Style Added Embellishments. The Inner Removable Tray has Multiple Section Dividers 3 with Removable Wood Lids and 1 with a Blue Velvet Covering - All 4 with Tiny Lathe Turned Bone Knobs.. It Also has Blue Velvet Pincushions and 1 Section that has a Round Hole that Missing Whatever it was Originally was Intended For - Possibly a Sewing Thimble or Needle Case ?. The Inside of the Top has its Original Framed Glass Mirror. NOTE That the Mirror is actually Hinged and it has a Small Metal Latch that when Turned Unlocks and Reveals the Hidden Compartment Behind. The Silver Mirror Backing has Some Age Related Spots and Discolorations. The Exterior and Interior Still Retain Original Varnish and it Displays Beautifully. The Top Veneer has a Few Small Age Cracks. NOTE ( See Last 2 Photographs ) That There is a Strip of Rosewood Veneer Missing on the Left Side Top Lid Area. It Still Retains its Original Locking Mechanism but Note that it Does Not Come With the Key. This Would Also Make a Great Jewelry - Trinket - Etc Box.
