**Extremely rare vintage Toile De Jouy linen fabric titled "L'amitié ne craint rien du temps" (Friendship Does not Fear Time). This pattern was reproduced in 1816 after the original by French genre painter Jean-Baptiste Mallet (1759 – 1835), which was also printed in the same red hue. The three vignettes depicted in the print were derived from various works by Mallet. At the top center of the drawing depicts a young woman embracing a tree, looking tenderly upon a dog who sits by her side, returning her gaze. Behind her, offerings are being burned on a drum-shaped altar inscribed with the words “Friendship does not fear Time.” (this ultimately becomingthe name of the pattern). In the lower left Cupid, manning the oars of a swan-prowed boat, rows away with Father Time, identified by his wings, hourglass, and scythe. They are spied upon by two female figures in a ruined circular temple, on the frieze of which is the inscription “Love makes Time pass.” On the other side, in the lower right, Father Time rows the boat back while Cupid sleeps. The inscription “Time makes Love pass” is carved on the stones beneath them, fallen debris from the temple. The last two inscriptions are two halves of a French proverb about the transience of amorous passion, in stark contrast with the endurance of friendship, symbolized by the woman and her dog above.
