This 19th Century English William IV–period mahogany writing table is a distinguished piece with a beautiful and sculptural base structure and leather-inset top. This table lends functional elegance for use as a writing desk, center table or library table and will elevate an array of interior decor.
* Rectangular writing table
* Rounded tabletop fitted with a leather writing surface inset within a mahogany frame,
* Elegant molded edge profile encircling the top
* Apron encircling the table with recessed panels and carved circular medallion motifs centered on each side
* Central drawer integrated into the apron, featuring a decorative turned wooden pull and fitted with a key escutcheon and green tassel
* Tapered legs terminating in carved, fluted collar forms near the top, transitioning into slender shafts
* Square block joints at the lower leg intersections, each accented with carved rosette-style motifs
* Structural stretcher system connecting all four legs, composed of turned horizontal stretchers and a central vertical finial element, forming a stable, symmetrical base with strong architectural geometry.
* Central turned finial rising from the stretcher intersection, framed by decorative bracket-like elements
* Brass hardware elements visible within the drawer mechanism and escutcheon plate
* Good antique condition showing expected wear consistent with age, use, and period construction. The leather writing surface displays natural, age-related patination, undulation, and soft rippling. Areas of cracking and separation are visible along sections of the mahogany molding that frames leather inset, particularly at one corner (see photo). Front apron and drawer facade show light scuffing and minor handling wear. Turned legs, carved collars and stretchers show scattered wear an dminor edge losses. Hairline checking and minor separations visible in some carved elements and jointed areas of base. Strong structural integrity.
