A finely potted Chinese porcelain bowl decorated with lively figural scenes set within a stylized landscape of rocks, foliage, and architectural elements. The exterior features animated figures rendered with confident brushwork and balanced composition, while the interior is centered with a delicate painted medallion depicting birds and foliage.
The underside bears a Chenghua reign mark in underglaze blue. Such marks are well documented in Chinese porcelain and were frequently used in later periods as a mark of reverence for earlier celebrated wares. The presence of this mark should therefore be understood as referential rather than as a definitive indicator of date.
The porcelain body, glaze quality, and the natural darkening and wear of the unglazed foot rim indicate genuine age and traditional kiln production. Further scholarly examination may help to clarify the precise dating.
Provenance:
Formerly in a European private collection; acquired on the Vienna antiques market (Austria). The object has been in Europe for several decades.
