It features a distinctive rounded, donut or orb shape with a small central opening and a glossy, iridescent finish. The object has an amazing cobalt blue interior layer (the camera fails to capture the brilliance) with a darker, smoky almost black exterior. This submerged glass technique is named "Sommerso." The glass is heavy with a rounded profile. The Cehtral circular opening gave it a donut effect. The base has an unpolished pontil, a good indication of studio art glass.

The glass with the center hole could have been a decorative centerpiece, designed purely for display, or it could have been a Mid-century modern ashtray. See less
