A striking and authentic late-Victorian tête-à-tête (conversation) chair, dating to approximately 1865–1890, featuring deep hand-carved walnut (or walnut-stained hardwood) with pierced splats, foliate motifs, and an expressive carved female masque at the crest rail.

Designed for parlor conversation, this sculptural form places two seats at opposing angles, allowing face-to-face seating while maintaining decorum—an iconic symbol of Victorian social life.

The chair retains its original structure with honest age-appropriate wear, including softened edges and patina consistent with 19th-century craftsmanship. The red velvet upholstery is later (20th century) but professionally done and visually striking, making the piece ideal as a statement accent for both traditional and eclectic interiors.
