A finely potted Chinese earthenware storage jar from the Eastern Han dynasty (c. 25–220 AD), featuring a balanced globular form, short collar mouth, and subtle incised decoration around the shoulder. The surface has a warm tan, buff-toned clay body with natural darkening and earthen deposits consistent with age and long burial. A grounded, sculptural vessel that holds its archaeological character while presenting with a real visual calm.
COLLECTOR'S NOTE
Han dynasty earthenware vessels of this type were made for daily storage and household use and were shaped for utilitarian function rather than display. Over time, their appeal has become largely about form: the confident silhouette, the disciplined simplicity of the collar mouth, and the restrained shoulder decoration that reads almost like a pottery “signature” of early imperial China. Collectors value examples like this for their honest material presence and the way early ceramic tradition is still visible in the profile, surface, and proportion.
