Walker & Hall Attributed Art Nouveau Silverplate and Cut Glass Perfume Bottle, England, circa 1905
An exceptional English Art Nouveau perfume bottle, circa 1905, attributed to Walker & Hall. The hinged silver-plated lid is surmounted by a figural bust of a flowing-haired maiden, her hair pierced and stylized in an undulating manner strongly reminiscent of Gustav Klimt and the Viennese Secessionist aesthetic. This sensuous Art Nouveau nymph motif, with its emphasis on natural curves and feminine beauty, reflects the fin-de-siècle fascination with mythic allegory and the divine feminine.
The silver top opens on a firm hinge to reveal the original faceted cut glass stopper, which sits securely within the neck. The body of the vessel is crafted in heavy cut glass, intricately wheel-engraved with bold starburst and geometric motifs, creating a prism-like play of light across its rounded surface. The bottle measures 5.5 inches high and rests on a base of approximately 4 inches in diameter.
Condition: The silverplate remains bright and lustrous with only minor age wear; the glass is free of chips or cracks, though it shows expected shading and wear consistent with over a century of use.
