About the artist : Rufino Tamayo (1899–1991) was a Mexican painter and printmaker who forged an independent path within modern art by blending international modernism with Mexican cultural themes. Born in Oaxaca, Tamayo drew inspiration from Indigenous traditions, pre-Columbian art, and folk culture, but he combined these influences with Cubism, Surrealism, and European modernist experimentation encountered during his time in Mexico City, New York, and Paris. His work is characterized by bold, textured surfaces, luminous and often earthy color palettes, simplified human and animal forms, and recurring cosmic, mythic, and everyday motifs—most famously watermelons.
About the poster : The Festival dei Due Mondi is an annual summer music and opera festival held each June to early July in Spoleto, Italy, since its founding by composer Gian Carlo Menotti in 1958. It features a vast array of concerts, opera, dance, drama, visual arts and roundtable discussions on science. (Wikipedia)
