this traditional, handcrafted piece, is made of oak, and comes from the countryside of the southwestern part of france, where there is a large production of chestnuts.

in french, it is called a "boueradour" or " boueiradour." it was, at the time, and throughout the 20th century, an essential kitchen accessory / utensil / tool, with a specific purpose: to peel off the skin of chestnuts in order to blanch them. By using the handles to stir and churn chestnuts in a cast iron cauldron of boiling water, the notched edges would then rub against the skins, aiding in their removal.

piece is in overall good, original and vintage condition, with some light marks, signs of age and previous use commensurate with time, as well as a patina of time, on the overall structure, which is to be expected for a piece of its age (see photos and video.) the hardware may have been replaced at some point in the past, by a previous owner (see photos.)

a fantastic, vintage, accent / conversation piece of decor, that will look great and compliment any given space, be it rustic, contemporary, french farmhouse, for a cabin or chalet, used as fireside decor, et al.
