A striking 1950s silver-plated bowl designed and handcrafted in Taxco, Mexico by the celebrated workshop Los Castillo. This exceptional mid-century piece showcases the studio’s mastery of sculptural form, hammered metalwork, and intricate stone inlay.
The bowl features a beautifully hand-hammered silver-plated surface that captures and reflects light with depth and brilliance. What makes this example especially rare is its dramatic base: the bowl is elevated on three stylized fish, each rendered in sculptural form and inlaid with malachite “scales.” The deep green mosaic stonework provides a vibrant contrast to the polished silver, creating a dynamic interplay of color and texture.
The underside retains the full Los Castillo hallmark:
“Los Castillo, Taxco, TA-01, Plateado, Hecho en Mexico.”
This hallmark corresponds to the early period when the Castillo brothers—pioneers in the evolution of Mexican modernist silver—produced some of the most collectible pieces of the mid-20th century, often blending organic motifs with bold sculptural metalwork.
