Crafted in England circa 1870, the Victorian coal scuttle is fashioned from solid walnut and designed with the traditional sloped form used for storing and dispensing coal. The fall-front door is enriched with geometric marquetry inlay framed by ebonized stringing, a hallmark of mid-Victorian decorative woodworking. A shaped crest rail with subtle fret-cut openings softens the silhouette, while the arched brass handle allows for easy transport. Inside, the piece retains its original removable zinc liner, once used to protect the walnut interior from soot and residue.
