MMA Iznik Turkey Large Decorative Bowl with Grapes Design Blue, Green and White
This is an Iznik fritware dish with a grape design.
The dish is made of stonepaste (fritware), which is a type of ceramic body made primarily of crushed quartz.
It features underglaze painting in a palette of blue and green pigments under a transparent glaze.
The central design of three grape clusters was inspired by 15th-century Chinese blue-and-white porcelain that was collected in the Ottoman Empire.
The plate has a scalloped, flat rim and stands on a foot ring.
Measures 14 7/8" diameter and 2 1/2" tall.
