An authentic antique Himalayan cabochon gem encrusted brass ritual bowl. 19th century, originating in the Himalaya region of India, similar examples can be found throughout the Himalaya mountain region and Hindu culture of South Asia including Nepal, Tibet, and China.
Handmade, this heavy brass vessel features its original warm rich lustrous rustic patinated finish, of rounded bowl form, with curved sides and flaring rim, encrusted in natural agate stone cabochon adorning the bezel, adding visually striking colors including turquoise, blue, orange, grayish, red, and deep wine, further embellished with intricate floral foliate gilt bronze mounts, above a slightly rounded base, marked India.
Like jade is precious to the Asian culture, they've revered agate for much longer, similarly regarding it as containing the same five virtues as jade: “smooth, straightforward, clear-sounding, unbending and sharp” in ancient Chinese culture, agate was commonly known as healing stones, long thought to have magical healing properties and offer vast health benefits, these semi-precious gemstones have been a part of Eastern medicine, Buddhist and Hindu ritualistic religious practices, meditation and exploration for centuries!
