A pair of large rare antique hand carved and painted Rajasthani folk musicians, dating to the late 19th / early 20th century, northern India.
Whimsical and wonderfully decorative, one figure with a primitive drum, the other with a stringed instrument, both in traditional Indian dress, Southern Asia style, with period British Colonial influence.
Highly detailed, richly polychromed, in great overall shape, with beautiful patina, lightly faded, naturally distressed, stable chippy paint finish, and typical expected age appropriate wear and tear, nothing that detracts from the overall aesthetics, but only adding to the unique antique character, rustic charm and fanciful, artistic depth.
Both statues display seated on an authentic antique Asian bajot table or low stool. Square four board planked top stands rising on four short legs, and the reclaimed wood adorned with remnants of remaining original paint, elegantly aged, muted, with handsome mellow patina over the whole. Very solid and sturdy.
