Magnificent gilt bronze mantel clock crafted in paris circa 1850–1870 by denière, one of the most celebrated french bronze workshops of the 19th century.
the clock is fitted with an award-winning japy frères movement (stamped médaille d’honneur), renowned for its precision and reliability.
the case is a superb example of the second empire revival of louis xiv aesthetics, featuring the radiant sun king mask (louis xiv), elaborate foliage motifs and highly detailed hand-chiseled bronze. The gilding is beautifully preserved, with exceptional depth and warmth.
the enameled roman numerals and the finely pierced hands are original.
both the timekeeping and striking mechanisms are fully functional – the clock has been tested and runs continuously, striking clearly on the hour.
