Antique Combination School Desk and Seat Unit, Cast Iron and Hardwood, Marked Chicago New York
A single antique combination school desk and attached folding seat unit, characteristic of late Victorian or early 20th-century institutional furniture design. The structure features a heavy, black-painted cast iron framework executed in a decorative Gothic Revival style, particularly visible in the arch supports beneath the desktop. The seat, backrest, and desktop surfaces are constructed from finished hardwood strips. The desktop includes a recessed pencil groove and an aperture for an inkwell. The cast iron pivot mechanism for the folding seat is visibly marked with the locations CHICAGO and NEW YORK. The vertical frame support is marked with the size designation 2.
