This 1984 redware plate by Ned Foltz reflects the enduring Pennsylvania German folk-art tradition practiced in Reinholds, Pennsylvania.
Formed in a terracotta body and decorated with a central slip-applied heart, the piece features Foltz’s characteristic manganese-sponge border and controlled glaze layering. The incised signature and date on the underside confirm production from his mature period, when Foltz’s workshop was known for historically grounded but individually crafted decorative forms.
Measuring 9.25 inches in diameter, the plate demonstrates the precision and folk-motif clarity associated with Foltz’s work and remains a strong example for collectors of regional American redware.
