This artwork is an original hand-colored etching depicting the Karlskirche (St. Charles Church), one of Vienna’s most celebrated Baroque landmarks. The scene captures the church on Karlsplatz with its monumental dome and distinctive Trajan-inspired columns, rendered with strong architectural detail and atmospheric depth. The style and execution are consistent with early to mid-20th century Viennese architectural printmaking and are characteristic of works produced by artists from the Kasimir family, who were renowned for their depictions of historic European cityscapes. The piece is titled, signed, and dated by the artist in pencil.
Karlskirche was commissioned in 1713 by Emperor Charles VI after a major plague epidemic and completed in 1737, becoming a masterwork of Austrian Baroque architecture blending classical and Roman influences. The hand coloring enhances the visual richness of the composition while maintaining a refined, period-appropriate palette. The artwork is matted and set behind glass in a teal-toned carved wood frame that is of the period, complementing the subject matter and reinforcing its historical and decorative appeal.
