The nightstands mirror each other except one has a lock. We do not have the key.

Hidden on the underside of one of the drawers of the tall chest is the mark (shown in the last photograph) which confirms the tall chest (and set) is made in January of 1966, in Japan. The nightstands are unmarked.

One of the Mid Century specialists I worked with at a Lambertville, NJ auction house told me there is very little English language information for Japanese Mid Century Modernism. Perhaps this and the obscure location of the mark is why these designs are often mistakenly attributed to the likes of American Makers and Designers like Albert Parvin, Vladimir Kagan and United Furniture Corp.

The nightstands are stunning and have been professionally restored. The wood grain has more depth and clarity than the original factory finish. The brass hardware retains the original patina See less
