Each plate … Read more This is a rare pair of porcelain transferware plates that were sold at the Philidelphia Exhibition of 1876. Each plate depicts a scene from the exhibition. The first image depicts Memorial Hall in an exterior view. At the foreground are people in carriages drawn by horse and others who stroll towards the entrance. The image is surrounded by a wide border in a wine-colored enamel. The outer border, in black and gold with repeating stars.

The second is an image of the interior view of Independence Hall. The room is filled with historical paintings and visitors in high Victorian dress. The border is enameled in a rust color surrounded by an outer gold and black border in repeating stylized leaves.

One of the plates is marked Philadelphia Exhibition 1876 on the back. They are in very good condition with slight wear consistent with age. They are being sold as a pair. Dimensions: Diameter: 8 5/8" , Depth: 3/4". See less
