A striking example of early modern design, this Viennese bentwood armchair exemplifies the transition from Art Nouveau to Modernism, capturing the fluid elegance synonymous with the Thonet style. Dating to the early 20th century, the piece is defined by its dramatic "hairpin" silhouette, where a single, continuous loop of steam-bent wood—likely beech—envelops the sitter to form the sweeping arms and top rail.

Unlike common cane-seated models of the era, this variation features a floating oval back panel and rounded seat, both fully upholstered in vintage striped florals. The fabric is finished with delicate ribbon trim, softening the architectural lines of the dark, rich-stained frame. The chair rises on tapered, splayed legs reinforced by bentwood arched supports beneath the seat, offering a piece that balances visual lightness with structural durability and historical gravity.

The piece presents in overall great condition, solid and stable. The wood frame exhibits characterful wear and patina consistent with its age and history. There is some observed loss to the decorative ribbon trim.
