This is a striking brutalist Icelandic lava bowl produced by Glit HF. Founded in 1958 by Ragnar Kjartansson, Einar Eliasson, and Pétur Saemundsen, Glit was the only ceramics manufacturer in Iceland at the time.
The clay used for this piece is made from pumice sourced from Icelandic volcanoes. Its distinctive, rugged texture is achieved by incorporating genuine lava, which is collected from the edge of an active volcano. This type of ceramic is characteristic of the mid-century modern and brutalist styles of the 1960s and 1970s. This piece has an attribution mark,
