A rare and visually captivating pair of 18th-century German porcelain figural candelabras produced by the prestigious Höchst (Hochst / Hoechst) Porcelain Manufactory, each bearing the distinctive underglaze blue Höchst wheel mark, dating these works to approximately 1765–1778.
Each candelabra features an elaborate rococo-inspired composition: pastoral figures seated amid scrolling floral branches, hand-modeled flowers, and softly colored foliage, supporting multiple candle arms. The figures—one male and one female—reflect the Enlightenment-era fascination with pastoral life, music, and domestic harmony, themes commonly explored by Höchst modelers in the third quarter of the 18th century.
Founded in 1746 near Frankfurt, the Höchst Porcelain Manufactory is regarded as one of the most important early German porcelain houses, alongside Meissen and Nymphenburg. Höchst was celebrated for its exceptionally sculptural forms, delicate floral work, and lively figural modeling, often attributed to master modelers such as Johann Peter Melchior, whose influence helped define the factory’s expressive, naturalistic style.
These candelabras exemplify the late Rococo aesthetic, characterized by asymmetry, movement, and an abundance of finely detailed flowers. Such pieces were luxury objects intended for aristocratic interiors and were often displayed as garniture on mantels or sideboards.
