Exhibiting the refined elegance of mid-20th-century Japanese craftsmanship, this exquisite lidded rice bowl is a stunning example of Heian Zohiko lacquerware. Hand-painted with meticulous detail, the bowl features a vibrant Camellia (Tsubaki) motif, rendered in rich gold and cinnabar-toned maki-e that stands out beautifully against the lustrous, deep black lacquer ground. The underside of the bowl bears the prestigious red lacquer seal of the Zohiko workshop, a lineage of lacquer masters in Kyoto dating back to 1661.
