Exhibiting the refined elegance of mid-20th-century Japanese craftsmanship, this exquisite lidded rice bowl is a stunning example of Heian Zohiko lacquerware. Hand-painted with meticulous detail, the bowl features a vibrant Camellia (Tsubaki) motif, rendered in rich gold and cinnabar-toned maki-e that stands out beautifully against the lustrous, deep black lacquer ground. The underside of the bowl bears the prestigious red lacquer seal of the Zohiko workshop, a lineage of lacquer masters in Kyoto dating back to 1661. This piece serves as both a functional vessel for traditional dining and a sophisticated work of art, capturing the timeless aesthetic of the Showa era (mid 20th century). This is perfect for enthusiasts of Asian antiques, tea ceremony aesthetics, or sophisticated home decor.
It is in great vintage condition (marks and wear consistent with its age and history).
