Renowned for quality, solid wood construction, durable finishes, and classic American styles. The company was purchased by Stickley in 2008 and is produced today under the name Nichols & Stone by Stickley. These rockers are no longer in production under the Stickley line.
Distinctive Mark: Each piece features a shield burned into the wood, signifying solid wood construction and authenticity.
Rocker is extremely comfortable to sit in, as its curved back gives the right amount of support in the right places. Coupled with the tractor style shaped seat base, this makes a lovely place to simply sit and relax.
A bit of History on the chair and the manufacturer:
Nichols & Stone remains America's oldest furniture maker, tracing back to the Nichols Brothers Chair Manufactory in Massachusetts in 1762, becoming Nichols & Stone in 1894, known for solid wood Windsor chairs and rockers before its 2008 closure and acquisition by Stickley Furniture Company. They specialized in traditional, high-quality solid wood pieces, with a distinct shield brand, continuing their legacy under Stickley as a line of classic American furniture.
Key Milestones
1762: Nichols brothers start chair-making in Westminster, MA, establishing the foundation.
1894: Formal partnership forms with Reuben S. Stone, creating the Nichols & Stone brand.
Early 1900s: Business moves to Gardner, MA, and grows into a major manufacturer, surviving fires.
1930s-1980s: Generations of Nichols & Stones focus on marketing Windsor chairs and Boston rockers, building brand recognition.
2008: After 246 years, the original company closes due to market pressures, with Stickley acquiring their assets and designs to continue the brand.
Continued Production: The brand lives on as "Nichols & Stone by Stickley," offering dining, bedroom, and living room furniture in the traditional style
