Handsome vintage Scandinavian Modern rocking chair Model J16 by Hans Wegner composed of a beechwood frame, hand twisted natural cord seat, & a clear lacquered finish. This piece has been attributed based upon archived research including online sources, vintage documentation and catalogs, designer literature, and other materials however, it is not signed or marked in any way. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Everything about this chair ABSOLUTELY ROCKS!!! Well, of course it does… It was created by epic designer Hans Wegner!!! That’s right!!! Hans Wegner changed the way the world looked at furniture. And this Model J16 rocking chair is one example of his masterpieces! It is composed of a lovely light toned beautiful beechwood frame with easy lines, a clear lacquered finish, and a wonderfully woven hand twisted natural cord seat. Hans Wegner designed this iconic rocking chair in 1944… this particular one was manufactured sometime in the Late 20th Century, likely in the 70’s-80’s, and although it is unlabeled, the measurements and details are correct to the original design. Also following Wegner’s design ethic: “there is nothing superfluous about it, no unnecessary details” …. This rockers simply sculptured silhouette combined with its exquisite material selection make it a feast for the eye. It bears smooth curves, a lower stretcher between the legs, and an ergonomic lean that exudes both superb Scandinavian Modern style and incredible comfort! It will be beautiful in any room you choose whether a corner of your bedroom, in the living or family room, or maybe in your new nursery!!

Wegner,1914-2007, was born in Tonder, Denmark. He apprenticed with a master cabinetmaker and when he was 15 designed and made his first chair. Studying at The Danish School of Arts and Crafts he eventually, after working in Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller’s architectural office, found his way to Johannes Hansen and Michael Laursen. In 1940, making his first mass produced chair, a rocking chair. for Laursen. 1943 found him opening his own studio and in 1949 he began his partnership with Carl Hansen and Son. He championed modernism, craftsmanship and Nordic functionality and drew on the Chinese furniture designs for inspiration becoming a multi-award-winning designer with pieces in many museum’s collections worldwide. And, although best known for his chairs, did create incredible cabinetry, desks, tables, beds, and lighting.
