This precious type of elegant lady’s writing desk was called a bonheur-du-jour, literally “happiness of the day” which may refer to the joys of letter writing.
Supported on slender cabriole legs, this spectacular desk has 4 drawers in the upper section and a single drawer in the lower part. It's decorated with intricate ormolu brass hardware and a beveled mirrored back. The bronze decoration on the surface areas includes cupids, acanthus leaf, and frames. The key is purely decorative. This unique and stylish piece is a beautiful addition to any room.

CONDITION NOTES
This is one of the most complex and intricate pieces we have come across to date. This is a fine antique item. It is decorated with bronze acanthus leaves, cupids, and frame plates on the surface areas and accented with painted gold art. Over time, some of the surface area brass has been lost. The gold artwork behind any lost piece makes up for its loss. The entire item is so complex that overall, any lost metal is not easy to spot. All important handles, structural trims, and corners are present.
