This is an extraordinary vintage 1960s French Provincial armchair, custom-built by Deutsche Bros. of Chicago — a boutique upholstery house known for its ornate hand-carving, sculptural silhouettes, and exceptional craftsmanship.
This piece is remarkably well-preserved for its age. It retains its original ivory-and-gold brocade upholstery, deep tufting, welt trim, and the signature Deutsche Bros. carved solid-wood frame. The carving features beautiful birds, florals, leaves, and pierced scrollwork, all still crisp and beautifully detailed.
The armchair was made custom for the original owner’s mother, and has been kept under a protective plastic cover for decades while being in use, which has resulted in unusually light wear for its age. This is a true statement piece — ideal for interior designers, boutique studios, salons, or collectors seeking authentic mid-century French Revival furnishings with strong craftsmanship and character.
A matching sofa is available in a separate listing. Chairish can coordinate combined shipping for buyers purchasing both pieces.

The frame is sturdy and all joints feel solid. There are two small age-related blemishes to note: • Front left arm repair: At some point, a small section of the carved wood along the front left arm developed a crack and was later glued. The repair is stable and does not affect the structure or sturdiness of the chair, but it is visible upon close inspection. (Pictured) • Light fabric discoloration: The seat cushion shows light surface discoloration along the front edge and a tiny pencil-tip–sized mark on the underside of the cushion (not visible during use). The upholstery has not been professionally cleaned, so the buyer may choose to have it cleaned if desired. Overall, the chair presents beautifully, and the age-appropriate imperfections are minor relative to its remarkable preservation and craftsmanship. less
