It features Gothic Revival and Renaissance Revival design elements like the carved knight above the mirror and the paneled geometric motif above the seat. The beautiful lion arm rests are also quite a stunning part of this piece. Settles like this one were popular in Victorian and Edwardian homes for seating and storage in entrance hallways. Notice that one photo shows the seat open for storage. The mirror on top makes it great for last minute appearance checks before leaving the house. We will send the original pillow for the piece, but the wood without the pillow is certainly beautiful. Please review the photos carefully to note the wear on this piece. Because of its age, there are blemishes and scratches which only speak to the amazing history it must have had. The back of the piece is also shown in the photos where you should note two newer boards which provide extra support. The top portion with the mirror separates from the bottom bench for shipping. There is a trim piece missing off one of the arm rests and is shown in the photos. There are newer support boards attached to the back of the settle which secure the mirrored top more firmly to the base. The drawer in the bench opens and closes easily. The top trim piece has been repaired with wood glue as it was disconnecting from the piece - you can see the blue tape holding the repair together as it dried. less
