Kuba textiles, hailed for their intricate designs and exceptional craftsmanship, originate from the talented Kuba people in Central Africa. Among the most sought-after Kuba textiles are the raffia squares, meticulously woven from the fibers of the raffia palm tree, employing diverse techniques to create elaborate patterns. After weaving, the fabric is cut into squares, often adorned with additional elements such as embroidery, appliqué, or beadwork. Each raffia square boasts a unique design and color palette, depicting bold geometric patterns, animals, plants, or elements of Kuba culture. Coveted by collectors of African art, these squares not only captivate with their beauty but also provide a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the Kuba people. Passed down through generations, the skill and creativity of Kuba weavers endure, as evidenced by the ongoing production and global admiration for Kuba raffia squares. Today, they continue to inspire contemporary artists and designers, serving as a testament to the enduring allure and creativity of African art.
We do not recommend laundering textiles and do not accept returns of textiles that have been laundered in any manner. Even dry cleaning is too much for some of these antique textiles. For some of them, a very gentle HAND washing (NEVER MACHINE, on any setting) in cool water with a very gentle detergent works, but even then, dyes may not be colorfast, and fabric may be less strong than it appears.
