Carved marble lamps with figural motifs—especially elephants—were a hallmark of 1980s Chinese export decorative arts, produced in the white-marble workshops of Guangxi and Guangdong. This period saw a revival of hand-carved classical urn forms, paired with symbolic animals. The marble itself is notably dense and fine-grained, with soft natural translucency—characteristics associated with higher-quality Guangxi marble.
