About The Poster: The Maitre de l'affiche posters were a collection sent to poster afficionados and subscribers just before the turn of the century (roughly 1896-1900).
This is an original poster and not a reproduction. It is part of the collection of the Maitre de l'Affiche and is embossed with the seal of the Maitre.
Les Maitres de l'Affiche, Affiches Illustrees and Das Moderne Plakat" were produced for collectors at the turn of the century and have been sought after by collectors for over 100 years. Many of the posters in the series cannot be found today in any other format. They have not survived. Others are extremely rare and have sold for staggering amounts (for example see PL.122, PL.197, and PL.95). Individual plates can range in price from around $100 to over $10,000 USD. With the advent of more interest in posters, prices have been increasing steadily. Over the last 10 years, many plates have doubled or tripled in value. According to innewyork.com, “Vintage Posters appear to be immune to trends and make a particularly sound investment; their value increases about 10% a year...Why? Authentic vintage posters, which are defined as posters that were made by a company for a specific item at a specific time, are becoming increasingly scarce...”

About the Artist: Paul Louis Joseph Berthon was an Art Nouveau period French poster and lithography artist. Berthon's work resembles that of his contemporaries Alphonse Mucha and Privat Livemont in its ethereality and softness, most particularly with his landscape panels, like this one.
Berthon studied painting and decorative arts, both of which influenced his printmaking and influencing the sharp lines and natural details which guided his art. The vast majority of Berthon's lithographed posters did not include advertisements (like this panel) and were meant to stand on their own.
This poster is unlined, embossed and in excellent condition, ready to frame.
