Vintage replica of the expensive pieces of porcelain exported from China to Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries. The white porcelain body is characteristic of blanc de chine ceramic artistry, which originated in Dehua, China while the colorful, circular motifs are consistent with decorative styles found on historical Chinese porcelain.
Deer figures in Chinese art symbolize longevity. This piece would have stored incense or concealed trinkets. Would be striking with a small white orchid planted inside.

Porcelain originated in China during the Tang dynasty (618-907) and is composed of two materials: kaolin (a white china clay) and petuntse (pulverised feldspathic rock, also known as china stone). When fired from temperatures in excess of 1250º C the body and the glaze fuse together and the porcelain becomes vitrified. Porcelain is characterized by being white, translucent, and impermeable.
