A striking Mexican Modernist sterling silver ring dating to the 1960s–70s, designed in a bold sculptural form topped with a polished, lustrous black pearl (untested, but characteristic of a Tahitian variety). While some Mexican Modernist pieces use onyx, the luster and depth suggest a pearl, offering a beautiful organic contrast to the sterling silver. The wide, architectural band features a sweeping ribbon-like curve that gives the piece movement and presence, all crafted in solid 925 silver. Signed JS925, this is a weighty, beautifully balanced example of mid-century Mexican silverwork, with the clean lines and confident simplicity associated with Taxco-era workshop design.
A minimalist modernist form, conceived as art—designed to be worn, admired, and loved by you.
JUNE'S THOUGHTS
What I love most about this ring is how sculptural it looks yet how comfortable it is on the hand—the wide band hugs the finger beautifully. It fits about a size 7.75 plus and has a touch of adjustability thanks to its open modernist form, making it easy to wear and enjoy every day.
COLLECTOR'S NOTE
The clean sculptural lines of this ring reflect the lasting influence of William Spratling, the American architect and designer who helped revive Mexican silverwork in the mid-20th century. After establishing his famed workshop in Taxco, Spratling trained local silversmiths and introduced modernist design principles—bold geometry, generous silver weight, and architectural simplicity. Many mid-century Mexican jewelers adopted these signatures, and this ring’s wide band and elegant cabochon setting echo that lineage.
