This oval-shaped, artfully hand painted Chinoiserie earthenware lidded beauty, topped by a brass strawberry finial was inspired by Qianlong period pottery. It was crafted between 1965 to 1975, most likely from Hong Kong. Nicely weighted with a suitably-sized interior, perfect for storing trinkets on a vanity top or for use as a vide poche on an entryway table. This beauty measures 5 high with the lid on and 3” high without the lid. It is 8¼” wide and 3¾” deep; interior 7¾” x 3” x 2” W/D/H; weight 2 lbs. 8 oz. Medium is glazed earthenware with a crackling effect which adds depth and character to the look-and-feel of the box. The whimsical floral and foliate motif is that of assorted vines and leaves surrounded by alternating chrysanthemum and peony flowers on a black background with splashes of yellow, crimson, pink, lilac and green.; the interior is a milky white. In excellent condition with age-appropriate wear. Makers mark is on the underside.
