A superb example of French Empire craftsmanship, this striking 19th-century portico clock is constructed with four finely carved black Portoro marble columns supporting a hand-gilded bronze drum case. The centerpiece is an exceptional gilt bronze eagle with wings fully outstretched, symbolizing victory and imperial strength.
The clock retains its original ormolu mounts throughout, including twin classical urn finials, floral rosettes, draped swag ornamentation, and an intricately cast pendulum. The white enamel dial features Roman numerals and a sunburst guilloché center. The movement is accessed from the rear and expected to be a French maker typical of the period (Japy Frères, Vincenti, Mougin).
The marble—richly veined and polished—pairs elegantly with the warm, untouched gilt bronze, offering both visual grandeur and historical character.
