This is a Great Looking Authentic Antique Early American Stoneware Liquid Storage Jug. Circa Early 19th Century - Approx. 1820s. It is Rendered in the Classic Early "Ovoid" Shape - Style. It is Embossed - Signed by the Well Documented Maker L. & B. G. CHASE in SOMERSET Massachusetts ( Boston Suburb ). It has a Sandy Greige Color Salt Glaze Exterior. Note that the Maker Mark has Blue Embellished Highlights. It is Not Marked as such but Based on its Size but I can Confirm that it has an Approx 1 Gallon Liquid Storage Capacity. These types of Jugs were typically used to Store and Preserve Liquids such as Water - Cider - Hard Ciders - Spirits - Liquors - Moonshine Etc. It is in Excellent All Original Condition - Displays Beautifully. No Damage - No Repairs. The Exterior has an Assortment of Surface Glaze Imperfections - Color Variations Etc. but these are Quite Normal with This Type of American Stoneware and Would Have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Items were Stacked and Fired in Large Kilns in Batches and as in This Instance There is Some Yellow Glaze Drippings from Pieces Above.
They were Individually and Completely Hand Made Each Being One of a Kind.
It Measures Overall Approx
11 1/2 inches Tall.
It Measures 8 1/2 inches Wide - Long at Mid Section and Tapers Down to a 5 inch Base.
