Beautiful matching pair of Chinese plique-à-jour cloisonné enamel bowls on original carved wood stands, circa 1940s-1960s. These exceptional bowls showcase the rare translucent enamel technique that creates a luminous, stained-glass effect when backlit.
Each bowl features four rotating scenes depicting traditional Chinese motifs: goldfish swimming among aquatic plants, butterflies with flowers, and pairs of waterfowl - symbols of harmony, abundance, and good fortune in Chinese decorative arts. The scenes are framed by fine wirework and bordered with millefiori-style bands and scrolling florals. The transparent enamel panels glow in layered greens, blues, pinks, ruby, turquoise, lavender, and gold tones.
