It is … Read more This really is a Great Looking & Quite Unusual Antique American Stoneware Spirits Jug. Circa Mid 19th Century. It is Embossed - Signed by the Well Documented CORTLAND Stoneware Company in Up State New York. The Front has a Hand Decorated Cobalt Blue Decoration that is Done in the "Script" Style that Reads 4 Quarts ( 1 Gallon ). Note Also that the Lower Part of the Handle is Also Blue Embellished. These Smaller Size Jugs were Used to Store a Variety Liquids such as Ciders - Vinegar - Liquors - Molasses - Spirits Etc. It has a Very Interesting Brownish Variable Salt Glaze Exterior Adding to its Character. It is in Excellent All Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. No Cracks - No Chips - No Repairs.
