Morimura … Read more This antique Nippon Morimura Handles Bowl is a spectacular imported antique from Japan to America between 1914 and 1921. Morimura Bros. commecned their exports into the United States in 1911, but did not iron the wrinkles from the process until 1914.. Their earliest exports to the States leaned heavily upon "liberally applied gold decoration". This Bowl is an example of such. The decoration is applied by hand and their is raised gold decoration to spare. There is one bold black band inside and one outside the gilt handled bowl and each of the bands is meticulously decorated with raised gold. In addition to gilded handles the bowl features numerous solid gold bands, both inside and outside the Art Nouveau Bowl. Topping off the design is a band and central cartouche of multicolored blossoms and their green plant leaves.

The bowl is imposing in size without being mammoth. It measures 4.25" tall and has a mouth opening of 8" (excluding handles). The decoration has withstood the passage of time with great courage, as wear is sparse and age appropriate here.

It has a green mark en bas on the white ground, indicating that it was made in Nippon (Japan) by Morimura, indicated by the "m" in the wreath. It also signifies the hand decoration of the fine Japanese porcelain.
