Published circa 1870s by McLoughlin Bros, Santa Claus and His Works includes six full-page chromolithographs Santa Claus illustrations by Thomas Nast (1840-1902).
The antique children's Christmas book would make a unique and charming holiday decor accent displayed on a living room coffee table or home library shelf.
Created as political propaganda for the Union during the American Civil War, Nast's "Santa Claus and his Works" drawings first appear in the December 25, 1866 issue of Harper's Weekly.
The vintage Christmas story book has advertising on the back for additional McLoughlin Bros. books including their Big Picture Book for Little Children series, paper dolls, and board game.
This is a genuine antique 19th-century publication with a softcover. The antique children's book shows wear including soiling, tears around the cover edges and toning to pages. The paperback book's original sewn binding was repaired long ago with neat hand-stitching along the spine.
