Offered is a 3.36 yard (3.07 meter) length of Marimekko Posetiivi pattern cotton textile designed by Katsuji Wakisaka in 1973.
The pattern is giving us Matisse in Morocco vibes, but the design is definitely mid 20th Century Japan meets Scandinavia. Even the color names emanate joy and style... Spanish Yellow, Paprika, Hot Orange, Jungle Green, Chili Red.
It measures 121" long, 54" wide including selvage, slightly over 45 square feet.
"Katsuji Wakisaka was the first Japanese designer to work for Marimekko when he started in 1968. Inspired by the Finnish nature he created a style that was characterized by organic forms and bold colors. He moved back to Japan in the mid 1980s and started his own clothing brand SOUSOU making clothes that are based on Japanese tradition."

It has been laundered and inspected. There are no discernible stains, tears, or holes (see photos), however, there is some age-related tannin (yellowing) discernible along parts of the selvage. Any imperfections in its craftsmanship are innate, and any wear is commensurate with its age and past handling. less
