Elaborate hand-applied embossed gold gilt detailing on rich ruby red, hand blown art glass compote with lid. The lid has 2 applied oval cameo profiles that are outlined in gold on a black background of Roman warriors.
This decorative centerpiece could be Bohemian or Venetian art glass. It was probably made between the late Victorian era and 1940’s.

It is very faded on one side. The base shows wear to the gold painted bottom rim, but still very much intact. Slight wear to the gold handle knob. The one cameo shows minor discoloration on the black background, this appears to be when it was fabricated. All of this is shown in the photographs. There are no chips, no cracks, no scratches that I can see. This is an in exquisite shape, a beauty to behold. less
