A charming mid-century Royal Copenhagen porcelain figurine depicting Thumbelina nestled inside a walnut shell. Hand-painted in soft natural tones—creamy whites, pale green leaf interior, and warm walnut browns—the piece displays the fine detailing characteristic of Royal Copenhagen’s studio painters.
A beautifully scaled collectible for Scandinavian ceramics lovers, fairytale enthusiasts, or anyone seeking a gentle decorative accent for a bookshelf, secretary, or nursery.
COLLECTOR'S NOTE
Royal Copenhagen’s fairytale figures were produced in far smaller numbers than their traditional animal and pastoral studies, and the Thumbelina in Walnut Shell model (4374) is among the most charming of the group. Made only from the late 1960s through the early 1980s, it has a noticeably shorter production run, which is why it surfaces far less often than typical Royal Copenhagen figurines. The sculptural composition — a walnut shell cradling a leaf and the tiny figure — is unusually imaginative for the period and highly collectible among Andersen enthusiasts and Scandinavian ceramics collectors alike. Pieces in this condition are genuinely scarce, making this a delightful and meaningful addition to a focused Royal Copenhagen collection.
