Matte … Read more Elegant Greek mythological themed smoking set consisting of a pair of porcelain ashtrays and matching match strike / vesta. Matte black glaze with white and taupe figural scenes of ancient Greek figures. The two ashtrays bear equestrian scenes of chariots and riders, the match strike features the goddess Athena and has a latticework striking surface around the opening. All have exquisite gilt / black/ white Greek key boarders. This classically themed porcelain is often referred to as "Corinthian ware".

Mark en verso on the ashtrays is the Royal Bayreuth, Bavaria "1794", the match strike has different blue underglaze mark. All marks date the pieces to as early as 1902.

Dimensions: ashtrays, 6.25" W x 6.25"D x 1.5"H"; match striker, 3.25" Dia. x 2.4"H.

Very good condition; no chips, no cracks, vibrant images. Gilt wear / loss on the edges. Match striker is in excellent condition; may be unused. Please note, antique match strikers require strikable matches, not safety matches.
