The bowl features a beautifully sculpted figural fish suspended within clear glass, rendered with a shimmering gold aventurine body and finely detailed transparent fins. The outer form is softly cased with an amethyst-toned rim, creating depth and visual movement. What makes this piece so special is the sense of movement and playfulness it conveys. The fish feels like it is swimming effortlessly within the glass, while the gold aventurine catches the light beautifully from every angle. To me, he looks like he is smiling - clearly he is one happy fish! The soft amethyst rim adds richness and depth, and I love how the color gently fades as it moves toward the center. The fish’s suspended form is a hallmark of Barbini’s work for Salviati, showcasing his mastery of balance, proportion, and controlled glassmaking. The bowl is hand-inscribed “Salviati” directly into the glass, consistent with documented period examples from this important Murano glass house. It is a highly collectible example of mid-century Italian art glass, and a rare find! This piece works beautifully as a display object, catchall or centerpiece and feels special whether styled alone or as part of a curated collection. See less
